Radio Radio Radio on the North Coast Journal Blogthing

Last time Lou Barlow came through Humboldt, he played in the basement of the Eureka Vet's Hall. Smoky, stuffy and packed with people, the moment he started playing, the sound hit me and I remember getting nauseous. Thinking it more important that I find fresh air, ASAP, I missed most of his set. What a bummer.

Last night was my second chance at seeing Barlow play live. This time, local bands the King Salmon Duo and Mister Moonbeam opened the show, and Barlow had Mike Watt backers The Missingmen (Tom Watson and Raul Morales) as his touring band.

After sound checking with Hannah Montana's "Best of Both Worlds," Barlow played a few songs on his own, then called up Watson and Morales to join him for the rest of his set, which ran right up until Jambalaya management turned the house lights back on shortly before 2 a.m.
